Amina completed her legal studies at the University of Otago before moving to the United States, where she practised law in Rhode Island for a few years.
Upon returning to New Zealand she was admitted to the New Zealand bar in 2022 and joined Community Law Otago.
In her previous roles, Amina has supported former refugee communities in Dunedin, helping individuals and families navigate settlement matters, immigration issues, and family reunification applications.
Amina has experience across family law, immigration law, employment law, and Protection of Personal and Property Rights (PPPR) matters. She now focuses primarily on family law, where she is dedicated to helping clients navigate challenging and often emotional situations with practical advice, clarity, and care.
Her experiences have given her a deep understanding of the complexities many clients face and she takes a practical, compassionate approach to resolving them. She brings a strong sense of empathy and dedication to her legal work, shaped by both her personal journey and professional experience.
Amina is multilingual. She is fluent in Dari/Farsi, has intermediate proficiency in Pashto, and working / beginner knowledge of Urdu and Arabic.
Outside of work, she enjoys walks on the beach and spending time with her family.
